KASK & Conservatorium not only offers a film course, but has also had its own cinema since 2011. However, this cinema on the historic Bijloke site is not only aimed at art students, but also at other film enthusiasts.
KASKcinema is a screening platform for films that fall outside the mainstream circuit. We programme festival hits that have not found traditional distribution in Belgium, classics and cult films, documentaries and animated works, audiovisual experiments and short films. Through an original and high-quality programme, we aim to satisfy the appetite of both film enthusiasts and students. Our aim is to introduce as wide an audience as possible to cinematic gems from the past and present, from all corners of the world, across all genres and formats (including 35mm prints). We want to challenge and inspire you, the audience, with new styles and ideas.
KASKcinema = films for the adventurous.
To ensure a distinctive and high-quality programme, KASKcinema collaborates with various cultural partners such as Film-Plateau UGent, Courtisane, Democrazy, Kinoautomat, and others. What’s more, we often provide a broader context. We do this through talks, introductions, live musical accompaniment and masterclasses, turning the film screening into a full-fledged event. As most of our films are shown only once, virtually every screening is an event in its own right.
With KASKcinema, we aim for quality for young and old alike, regardless of genre or style, and we always strive to offer something unexpected. In excellent technical conditions, we aim to inspire the audience with the medium of film and to present audiovisual works in all their glory on the big screen.
We also organise recurring events: KIDScinema on Sunday mornings, masterclasses and other events (Weird Wednesdays, Night of the Horror).
KASKcinema is an initiative of Forum K vzw and KASK & Conservatorium, the school of arts at HOGENT and Howest. KASKcinema’s operations are supported by the Flemish Audiovisual Fund and the City of Ghent.
In collaboration with a.o. Kinoautomat, Cinea, Sabzian, Kuru, F*Q, Filmlabo, Kuleshov & Courtisane filmfestival.
KASKcinema isn’t just for grown-ups; film screenings are also organised for the little ones. Every last Sunday morning of the month (unless otherwise announced), children aged 4 and over are welcome at KASKcinema at 10.30 am to discover cinematic gems and non-commercial children’s films.
Each screening centres on a specific theme. The film programme lasts approximately 45 to 60 minutes and is presented with expert insight and a touch of humour. This is always followed by a tailor-made workshop.
Film price: 4 euros per child (under 12), 8 euros per adult
Are you looking for a fun activity to fill an evening or an afternoon, or are you searching for an original venue for your unique event? KASKcinema, the cinema hall that forms part of KASK & Conservatorium on the Bijloke site, can be hired for lectures, conferences, presentations, birthday parties and, of course, film screenings. We can put together a bespoke film programme for these occasions. Receptions and other events are also possible.
KASKcinema has 86 seats and is well equipped with the latest technology.
KASKcinema can be hired at times when there is no public programme and no lessons are being held in the cinema.
We’d be delighted to show you the many possibilities on site. For further information, please contact Elisa De Schepper (kaskcinema@hogent.be).
