Driepunter aan basketbalfilms

A Poster Fantasy (2026, Melissa Mabesoone, 7’)
Western History (1971, Stan Brakhage, 8’, 16mm)
Goshogaoka (Sharon Lockhart, 1997, VSA & Japan, 63’)

In Goshogaoka, Sharon Lockhart turns her camera on the girls’ basketball team at a Japanese sports school. In six uninterrupted ten-minute takes, we follow a group training session, punctuated by the squeaking of trainers on the parquet floor. The hypnotic focus on collective movement patterns transforms physical action into mental gymnastics. The red curtains and the school stage in the gym are reminiscent of a cinema auditorium. Are we watching a performance or a production?

Prior to Goshogaoka, we will be screening A Poster Fantasy by Melissa Mabesoone, followed by Western History by Stan Brakhage, in which a basketball match collides with images from Western art history.
